Essential Tips For New Drivers Regarding Auto Insurance

Find a good agent.

With many national insurance companies pushing customers to buy insurance over the telephone, through the mail, and on the Internet, it may seem a little old-fashioned to have an agent. However, new drivers need to get educated regarding insurance terminology. One of the best ways to get this knowledge is to sit down with a good agent or broker ask your agent to explain.

If you do not own a car, consider buying non-owners auto insurance.

This type of insurance will cover you when you drive a borrowed or rented car. For new drivers, this can be a great asset if the car is involved in an accident while you are driving. It will cover your liability needs, and help pay for repairs to the car that you were driving. You can add other options to this policy to cover passenger and pedestrian medical expenses.

Always carry at least the minimum legal liability coverage before driving any car.

Having an accident without being covered by liability insurance that meets the legal requirements can leave you exposed to prosecution. Your financial risks are also great when you do not have liability insurance to protect the financial needs of the other driver and any passengers that may be involved in the accident. It is actually better if you carry liability insurance that exceeds the minimum requirement if you have significant personal assets. In a law suit, your personal wealth can be attached if your insurance is inadequate to cover the loss. Even future earnings can be at risk.

Important Things To Check Before A Long Trip

Check up on Maintenance and Repairs
Just like your annual medical exam, your car has regularly scheduled maintenance that needs to be addressed. If you are really good about this, you can check this off the list and move on to the next point. If you are like the rest of us, get your owner’s manual out and take a look.

Check your fluids
Fluids are critical to the overall health of your car. Your car needs oil to lubricate the engine, antifreeze to regulate its temperature, and washer fluid to maintain good visibility.  It only takes a few minutes to look over all of these things. If you are low on an important fluid, you will be happy that you caught the issue before your trip, instead of being stranded on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere.

Check your tires
Tires are a very important safety feature and are one of the most common sources of trouble on a long trip. You can avoid calling roadside service for a flat if you do a quick check of your tires before you leave.

Brake check

The last thing you want is to have a brake problem while cruising down the highway during peak travel times. Make sure your brakes are in good condition before you head out.

How To Properly Remove Ink From Your Car's Upholstery

An Alcohol based “Ink Away” product, rubbing alcohol or even aerosol hair spray with high alcohol content should remove ink from upholstery.

Dab the spot with a white terry cloth towel, do not rub!” The goal here is to transfer the stain from the seat to the cloth, that is why you should use a white towel. A white towel does not have dye on it so it can only absorb the stain and not add to it. Do not use alcohol on leather seats, find an Ink Away product that is specifically designed for leather.

it is important to pick the right product first. Trying lots of different types of cleaning products can actually lock the stain in. If you do this, you may not be able to remove ink, lipstick or any other stain. If you are unsure, it is always best to see an expert first. They can probably remove ink or other stains for you. It is less expensive to pay for cleaning than it is to recover your seats.

Helpful Tips For Driving In The Rain

Wet roads can be quite treacherous. Avoid hydroplaning and low view distance. Follow these helpful tips:

  • Go slowly. Speed limits are set for ideal road conditions. When it rains, visibility is reduced and braking distances increase.
  • Light up. Use low-beam headlights to help others see your car and increase your visibility.
  • Be careful of standing and running water. As little as six inches of water on a road can cause most drivers to lose control of their vehicle. Nearly half of all people who die in flash floods are in cars and have underestimated the power of flood waters or have not acted quickly enough to escape.
  • Do not drive through moving water or flooded areas. If floodwaters arise around your car, abandon the car and move to higher ground if you can safely do so. If not, do not open your car doors, stay within your vehicle and call 911.
  • Be a follower. Driving in the tracks of other vehicles can improve traction and help avoid hydroplaning.
